Children in Uganda suffered through cold, rainy nights. But then Holt sponsors and donors gave them blankets!
Uganda has two rainy seasons every year. These seasons mean wet, cold nights for families who live in rustic, poorly insulated homes. Many families can’t even afford warm bedding for their children — making them vulnerable to colds and other viruses. Some mothers will cover their children in their traditional gomesi, floor-length dresses made of lightweight silk, cotton or linen fabric that aren’t heavy enough to keep their children healthy and warm.
But through the generosity of Holt sponsors and donors, children received warm blankets to keep them warm during Uganda’s cold rainy seasons!
“Children feel a special connection to their blankets because they represent love and care from their sponsors,” says Julius Magezi, Holt Uganda programs manager. “With the blankets, children enjoy a peaceful, warm night and a more sound sleep.”
The children are warmer and healthier because of the blankets. They’re also doing better in school! Before, the children would show up tired and struggle to concentrate in class. But their school performance has improved because they no longer wake up cold throughout the night.

Thank you, Holt sponsors and donors, for giving these children warm, cozy blankets to sleep with so they can have peaceful, warm nights!
